What is Online Learning?
At FCS, every student has the right to take courses online, regardless of whether the class is also offered in our building. Students can choose to enroll in courses through Forsyth Virtual Academy (FVA) or Georgia Virtual School (GAVS). If a student opts to take one of their 7 classes online, the cost of the course is covered by the school. However, if a student wishes to take an additional course outside of the 7 required classes, it is considered an "8th Class" and is a self-pay option.
It’s important to note that all online courses covered by the school will appear on the student's transcript, regardless of whether the course is passed or failed. When a course is paid for by the school, it will default to Forsyth Virtual Academy, but if FVA doesn’t offer the specific course, the student will be placed with GAVS.
We aim to give students flexibility while maintaining rigorous academic standards.
Online Courses & DHS Attendance Policy
Online courses IN your DHS schedule (school pay courses) will be scheduled at the beginning or end of the day, and students will be required to take the course from home and provide their own transportation to or from school at the appropriate time.
Please only choose an online course if you have appropriate transportation. The ONLY exception to this is if a student is taking a class that is not offered at DHS.
Think Before You Choose
Once a student is registered for an online course they cannot transfer back to the building if they do not like the online environment. This is a yearlong commitment.
Students who opt to take online courses over the summer to “get ahead” will be slotted for the next lowest level class or an elective if the course is grade level specific. This is important for students trying to get ahead in math.
Please discuss all online learning with your school counselor!

Self-Pay Courses
Beginning in the summer of 2025, FCS students may earn one high school credit per semester for self-pay online courses through Forsyth Virtual Academy (FVA) or Georgia Virtual School (GAVS). This credit will be added to the student’s transcript and factored into their GPA. Students may take multiple self-pay courses, but only one credit per semester will be posted to the transcript.
FCS only accepts online credits from FVA and GAVS, ensuring alignment with our district’s educational standards. If a student takes more than one self-pay course per semester, they must notify their counselor which course should be posted to the transcript using the FCS credit acceptance procedure.
These changes have been carefully considered to maintain a balanced academic load and support student well-being, while also fostering a clear path to college admissions.
Self-Pay Courses Posting to Transcript
Students who take Georgia Virtual School or any online tuition-based courses, have an option to have the course grade and credit posted to their transcript; however, if the course(s) is to be used to satisfy prerequisite and/or graduation requirements, the course must become part of the student’s official transcript. Once credit is posted on the high school transcript, it cannot be removed.
Denmark High School will receive the course name and official grade directly from GA Virtual School. We must also receive this signed document requesting the grade be added to the student transcript before it can become a part of their official high school record.
Please return the form below IN PERSON to Danelle Zacholski-Hayes, Counseling Secretary, in the DHS Counseling Office. DO NOT EMAIL THE FORM.
